Located at the Balboa branch of the Newport Beach Public Library and staffed by members, we are open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Newport Beach Historical Society connects people  –  past, present and future  –  by collecting, inspiring, educating, preserving and protecting the unique and vibrant history of the City of Newport Beach, including Balboa, Corona del Mar, Newport Harbor, its islands and offshore, the Back Bay, Newport Coast and Newport Mesa.

Share Your Story and Images

Newport Beach has such a rich and colorful history and so many interesting people who were part of it. Tell us yours or your parent’s or grandparent’s – about anything from the biggest waves surfed to the biggest fish caught. Tell us about your years at Newport Harbor High school or CDM or submit your photos. Tell us about your times on Balboa Island during Bal Week or your best memories dancing at the Rendezvous Ballroom. Or waterskiing in the Back Bay. Help us to remember the Newport Beach of your childhood and tell us what makes Newport Beach special to you!

The NBHS hosts several educational events each year. Past events include Tales of Bawdy Balboa, The Commerce & Culture of the Balboa Island Ferry, Oral History Training Workshop, The Jetty Presentation by Bob Rogers, The Gambling Ships Off Newport and the Southern California Coast-A Lecture by Author Ernest Marquez about his book “Noir Afloat”, Tales of Newport Elementary-A Panel of Speakers, Birthplace and 41st Anniversary of international modern Hang Gliding.
