The Newport Beach Historical Society invites the community to celebrate Newport Beach’s upcoming 120th anniversary during Newport Beach Art Week, August 9th-15th, 2026.
Join us for our “Then & Now” social media photo contest, where participants recreate historic Newport Beach photographs using present-day locations. Contestants can capture how the city has changed while preserving the landmarks and stories that define our coastal community.
Using archival images and personal photography, contestants can spotlight iconic places including the harbor, piers, Balboa Peninsula, Corona del Mar, and historic neighborhoods. Entries will be shared throughout Art Week on our social media account and website to honor Newport Beach’s rich history, creative culture, and community legacy. This “Then & Now” contest kicks off our September celebration of Newport Beach’s official 120th birthday.

The Newport Beach Historical Society asks that you provide captions of your photographs and select from our archive images to create a then and now perspective. A committee will review the submissions and provide an NBHS merchandise prize package worth over $100 for the winner, $50 for the 2nd place, and $25 for the third place.
The inaugural Newport Beach Art Week 2026 will feature citywide exhibitions, performances, concerts, and cultural programming, beginning with a summer concert on August 9 and concluding with the 59th Annual Newport Beach Art Exhibition on August 15 at the Newport Beach Civic Center.
Submissions are due Friday, July 26th at 5pm with this submission form in order to qualify for the photography art contest. You can email info@newportbeachhistorical.org with questions.
