School is Back in Session

By Jill Thrasher, Archivist

Founded in 1894, Newport Beach Grammar School has been part of the community’s story for more than a century. Its journey began at 1900 Court Street, continued with a move to 2008 West Oceanfront in 1905, and reached its present home at 1327 West Balboa Boulevard in 1912. Now recognized as a historic site by the Newport Beach Historical Society, the beloved “school on the beach” has inspired and educated generations of students against the unforgettable backdrop of the Pacific coast.

Look for the historic markers located throughout the City of Newport Beach! Explore local history from these plaques that identify local, state and national landmarks. Thank you to Don Webb, NBHS Board Member and former Centennial Mayor, for creating this historic marker compilation, available to view and download here.
